How can Alabama football improve the atmosphere on Saturdays?

The SEC prides itself on having the best atmospheres in college football. Near the top of the list  Tuscaloosa, Alabama. When you have the history and tradition that comes with Alabama football, it’s almost impossible to have a bad atmosphere.

That being said, I believe that there is room for improvement. With the Crimson Tide already renovating Bryant-Denny Stadium, let’s look at what all they can do to improve the overall atmosphere.

To me, a college football atmosphere includes many things. It’s the tailgate. It’s the town on a Saturday. It’s the tradition. It’s the stadium. In addition to all of these things, it’s also the things to do on a Tuscaloosa Saturday.  Let’s try to find ways to improve all of these aspects for the Alabama Crimson Tide.

How to improve Alabama football’s game-day atmosphere.

Let’s start with a Tuscaloosa tailgate. People have a great time at the Quad, but there is room for improvement. However, it’s not something the university could spark. When you go to the best tailgates in the country, the overwhelming feeling is one of acceptance. They welcome everyone to the party, offer them food, and treat it like an event for everyone. I’m not saying that Alabama football fans aren’t welcoming, but it doesn’t have that vibe.

In terms of tradition, I don’t think there’s much you can do to make things better. There’s the Walk of Champions, the iconic videos played before the team comes onto the field, and the fans holding up four fingers at the end of the third quarter. We’ve got the tradition set in stone.

The best way to improve the atmosphere in Bryant-Denny Stadium is to choose a new playlist. Everyone loves Sweet Home Alabama, and students are glad that Dixieland Delight has made its return. Outside of that, there is plenty of room for improvement. Alabama needs new songs for when the team runs onto the field, for third downs, and for breaks between drives. Dynamite has absolutely no reason to be played on a college football Saturday.

Mr. Brightside is a controversial one. Many love it, but I personally believe that it has overstayed its welcome. You could perhaps play it once or twice a year, but it doesn’t need to be played every home game.

The song playlist is really my main point. You could redesign the stadium so that fans are closer to the field, but Alabama won’t do that. There might be other ways to improve the atmosphere, but these moves would instantly help the cause.
