Check out a new Top 25 projection for Alabama football and other SEC schools after conference cancellations.

Alabama football is now one of only 79 FBS programs intending to play fall football. The situation is fluid. Nebraska and Penn State are two schools hoping to find a way to play. Other conferences and other schools currently in, may decide to drop out. However much the 79 number grows or recedes, a new preseason Top 25 is in order.

Is this a pressing issue for fans, considering other more serious issues? Yes and no – safety of players and coaches and financial viability of programs are certainly more important. Fans though, seeking some return to normalcy is not frivolous.

As a small contribution to returning normalcy, let’s consider a new preseason Top 25, made up of the current tams known to be playing in 2020. No Big Ten or Pac 12 teams are included. In the following totally subjective ranking, eight of the 14 SEC football teams are ranked in the Top 25.

For those wanting other opinions or more detailed breakdown by teams – College Football News has done the same task. Though not updated for a current list of expected teams, Bama Hammer Contributor, Zachary Mangum did an interesting deep dive into a preseason Top 25.

The rankings are presented counting down from No. 25. Before anyone quick clicks to the last page, Alabama football is No. 1 in this Top 25 ranking.
