Alabama football needs these answers before they begin the season.
We are living in a world of absolute uncertainty. We see it in our everyday lives, and we are also seeing it in sports. With multiple conferences postponing their fall sports until the spring, the SEC has decided to plan for games. As of right now, Alabama football will be playing games in September.
However, we need to figure some things out before we kick off the 2020 college football season. Some of these are at a school level, while some are above their pay grade. We’ll have to wait for the NCAA to answer some of these questions, which is not a good sign.
So, what do we need to know before we can successfully kick off a college football season?
What safety measures need to be taken?
This question was answered for practice. Schools put out a plan for testing and quarantining, and it has worked to some extent. However, we are in a whole new ball game right now. Once games happen, travel gets thrown into the mix. They will be meeting with other schools, so they have to make sure that everyone is cleared before a game can be played. Will athletes be tested before they travel? Will teams travel the day of the game so they don’t have to spend the night at a hotel? These are things to think about.
What happens if someone tests positive?
The athlete would obviously have to isolate, but there needs to be a protocol. If you’re not having a bubble, then players are almost definitely going to test positive at some point. How long will they quarantine? Will teams be allowed to play if someone tests positive during a game week? If not, will that game be canceled or will they forfeit?
