Alabama Football: Questions that must be answered before games happen
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football needs an answer to these questions as well.
Is there a plan for a postseason?
The main reason why each conference went conference-only was so that they could control protocols. That goes out the window with a postseason. With the Big Ten postponing their season, will there even be a College Football Playoff? A bubble would have to be formed, and don’t get me started on the bowl games. With so few teams playing and so many bowl bids, something has to budge. This can be settled after the official start of the regular season, but Alabama football players want to know what they’ll be playing for.
What about players in the Big Ten and Pac-12?
This is the first domino that has to fall. You can’t have half of the country playing in the spring while the other half plays in the fall. Can players transfer and get immediate eligibility? If so, what about scholarship limits?
Let’s say that the SEC plays in the fall and no one plays in the spring. Will players in the Big Ten have to lose a year of eligibility? That would be unfair. It would also be unfair if they had to burn their redshirts. However, if players were granted another year of eligibility, teams like Alabama football would be at a disadvantage. There’s no one true way to keep everyone on an equal playing field, but teams need to know what a season means for their players in the long run.
There are other questions that need to be answered as we go, but these are at the top of the board. We all want college football, but we can’t just put the teams on the field and play the game. We all have to take this a step at a time.
