Alabama Football: Updated College Football Playoff prediction
By Dakota Cox
Will Alabama football win the CFP with a conference-only schedule?
No one really knows what to expect with the 2020 college football season except for chaos. Fans are getting more information by the day, but three of the Power Five conferences are still planning to play games in the fall. However, the College Football Playoff committee is planning on keeping the traditional system with four teams in the playoff. As always, Alabama football is hoping to work its way into the top slot.
The CFP have quite a task on their hands for the 2020 season. They usually have to worry about who gets out, but they will have more slots than power conferences this year. They also will have practically no way to break ties due to the lack of games between conferences. Now more than ever, the committee will have to rely on the eye test. This bodes well for the SEC, but it makes predictions incredibly hard to do.
It’s safe to assume that the winner of each conference will practically get an automatic bid unless there is an upset in the conference championship game. However, which conference will get the fourth slot? It’s going to be harder than ever for teams to get through their schedule without multiple losses.
There’s no way to truly know how this will all go down. We’ve got a long way to go before college football even happens, but this is how I expect things to work out in the CFP. We’ll learn a lot more when schedules are finalized, but here is where we stand as of mid-August.
