Alabama Football: Updated College Football Playoff prediction
By Dakota Cox
Who will play Alabama football in the national championship?
(2) Clemson vs. (3) Florida
It’s incredibly likely that the SEC gets two teams into the College Football Playoff. Unless Notre Dame goes on a tear or Texas is finally back, I don’t see who else could make it from the Power Three. Unless this is the year a team from the Group of 5 makes it to the CFP, expect the SEC to get two teams.
So, why Florida over Georgia? I simply cannot find a logistical possibility for both Georgia and Alabama football to make it to the College Football Playoff. The only way that happens is if they split their meetings, and I don’t see the Tide losing to UGA. However, there are plenty of ways that both Florida and Alabama make it. Florida could lose to Georgia and make it as a one-loss team, much like how Alabama did in 2017. Florida could even go undefeated and lose to Alabama in the SEC Championship.
So, why not Florida as the 4-seed? To be transparent, I doubt that the committee would put the two SEC teams against each other in the first round. I know that they are supposed to avoid bias like this, but I’m just being honest. Unless Oklahoma goes undefeated, I could easily see the SEC getting berth into each of the semifinal games.
Clemson is almost guaranteed to make the College Football Playoff. Unless they get embarrassed by some team, there is no way they miss out. They’re also going to be significantly better than the Florida Gators.
