Alabama football wants a season, but these guys need one.
The SEC is barreling on with the hopes of playing college football in the fall, but we are a long way away from opening kickoff. There is still a chance that the 2020 season gets canceled.
No college football would be devastating on many fronts. Governor Kay Ivey discussed how much football impacts “morale” in the state of Alabama. We’ve also heard projections of billions of dollars in revenue being lost without home games for the Crimson Tide. It would hurt many industries, from hospitality to media. It would also simply be heartbreaking for the millions of Alabama football fans out there. I’m sure we can all agree that we wouldn’t know what to do without college football in the fall.
All of this pales in comparison to the loss for the players. I’m not going to debate whether or not college football should be played in this article. I’m not going to pretend to know the severity of the health risks outside of what medical experts have said, and I am not in the room when these decisions are being made. However, it is an undeniable fact that no college football would be life-altering to many of the players on the Crimson Tide. Some wait until their junior or senior seasons to get a chance to prove themselves as NFL Draft prospects. Others have been healing injuries and have to prove that they’re 100 percent healthy.
No college football would hurt everyone. However, it would impact these Alabama football players the most.
