Alex Leatherwood returned to Alabama football for a reason.

Alex Leatherwood, OT

Alex Leatherwood had a chance to be a first-round offensive tackle in the 2020 NFL Draft, but let’s be honest. Leatherwood came back to college for a reason. He’s going to be a stud left tackle in the NFL one day, but he has some work before he gets drafted. A new college football season would help his draft stock in the long run.

Last year’s class had four tackles that were entrenched in the top tier, including Alabama football’s Jedrick Wills. Despite Leatherwood playing left tackle and Wills playing right, he was considered behind this group. If he can play an entire season, there is a chance that Leatherwood can become the second-best tackle in the 2021 NFL Draft.

I don’t believe that there is a chance for Alex Leatherwood to become the best offensive tackle in this class. That’s not because he’s not good enough. It’s just that Penei Sewell is a generational talent. He has all of the skills necessary, and he will be drafted within the first five picks in 2021. However, Leatherwood can be in that next group of guys.

Could Alex Leatherwood still be OT2 without a college football season? It’s possible. He has a year at guard and a year at tackle to show his versatility. However, he really needs one more shot to show how much he’s improved.
