Alabama Football: A canceled season would hurt these Tide players most
By Dakota Cox
Other linemen for Alabama football need a season.
Landon Dickerson, IOL
Landon Dickerson was a solid starter for the Crimson Tide last year, but he needs one more run to prove that he’s a quality NFL lineman. He had some mental errors that cost the Tide big in some key games, but he has the size and skill necessary to be considered. One clean year from Landon Dickerson would go a long way, and this is his last chance to do so.
Alabama football would love to see Dickerson become one of the best interior offensive linemen in college football, but we’ll have to see what happens.
Chris Owens, IOL
Chris Owens might not even start this year, but he’s a redshirt senior. If he wants to put tape on the record and hope to make an NFL roster some day, this is his time to shine. I doubt that he will reach those heights in all honesty, but he’s banking on a great fall camp to earn some playing time with the starters. He might also benefit from earning an extra year of eligibility, but we have yet to see what that would do to scholarship limits and recruiting.
If Chris Owens has played his last snap of Alabama football, I don’t think he has a shot of making it past an NFL fall camp. He needs another season, and he needs everything to go right alongside it.
Deonte Brown, IOL
Deonte Brown is probably in the best position to succeed out of these players, but he still could use another year to move up draft boards. Interior offensive linemen rarely get drafted early. That’s a position that most NFL teams punt on until Day 3 unless there is a player like Quentin Nelson available. Brown isn’t Nelson, but he can still earn himself a lot of money if he gets to prove his leadership as a redshirt senior.
