Did Alabama football win the schedule release?

After months of uncertainty, we finally know what the Alabama football schedule looks like. Along with the rest of the SEC teams, the Tide learned the order of their games and timing of their bye weeks.

This is big news for all teams in the conference. We already stated that the Crimson Tide won the announcement of their additional opponents, but did they win the schedule itself? Let’s take a look at the winners and losers of the SEC schedule release.

Loser: Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia has to play their three toughest opponents in their first seven games. Getting a bye before the Florida game helps, but it would have been nicer for them to have their challenging games spread out. They will have a cakewalk near the end of the season, but that does not matter in the grand scheme of things.

Winner: Missouri Tigers

No one expects much from Mizzou in 2020, but they need to win a few games for their coach’s sake. Their early stretch of games is daunting, but one of their easiest opponents will be in Week 4 against Vanderbilt. They also have a stretch of easier games later in the year. Things might go south early on, but there is hope that they can turn the ship around and build some hope and confidence for 2021.

Winner: Alabama Crimson Tide

The 2020 Alabama football schedule is incredibly balanced. They get some warm-up games before they play Georgia, a bye week before they play LSU, and some time before they play Auburn. This is great for the Crimson Tide. If anything goes wrong, they will have time to fix it before another key opponent.

Loser: first-year coaches

Missouri, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Arkansas will have new head coaches for the 2020 season. Their opponents are some of the toughest in the SEC. Mizzou plays Alabama football, Ole Miss gets the Gators, Mike Leach will face the Tigers, and Arkansas sees Georgia. That’s not necessarily a warming welcome to the conference.

Loser: Alabama and Auburn fans

When the entirety of the college football season is not guaranteed, the SEC had a chance to slide rivalry games forward. However, the Iron Bowl will be played on November 28th. If the season gets canceled, fans in the state of the Alabama will be very upset that we missed out on the Iron Bowl.

These lists might look completely different once we start the season. Some teams might improve and make someone’s schedule even tougher. However, these are the current winners and losers as the SEC schedule is being released. Obviously, all college football fans are winners that a season is still within the realm of possibility.
