There are still significant hurdles before Alabama football has its first game.
We have come a long way over the summer, but there is still a lot that has to happen before we get an Alabama football season. The next hurdle includes the university itself as the fall 2020 semester begins.
Crimson Tide players have essentially been kept away from other students over the summer with their workouts. Almost all summer classes were online for UA, so the city of Tuscaloosa felt like a ghost town. We are officially back to the hustle and bustle of a new college semester, and that comes with some challenges.
The University of Alabama has put out plans to combat these challenges. A significant portion of classes will be held either completely online or in a hybrid format. For in-person classes, masks are mandatory and social distancing guidelines will be enforced.
How will students impact the Alabama football season?
Things were not off to a great start in Tuscaloosa on Sunday. Students were seen avoiding social distancing guidelines and mask ordinances while waiting in line to a famous bar near campus. After comments by Nick Saban himself, those actions will hopefully become few and far between.
With students engaging with Alabama football players on campus, it is important that everyone does their part. Football players will not be placed in an exclusive bubble, so any time they leave their dorm or apartment is a risk. If we see cases rise on UA’s campus, it will impact the college football season.
Everyone in the SEC is determined to play, but that is still not a guarantee. We are a month away from Alabama’s first game, and we need to see a continual decline in cases in the state of Alabama. We are taking steps in the right direction, but this is one final hurdle for all parties involved.
