Alabama Football: Things for fans to do instead of tailgating
By Dakota Cox
What will Alabama football fans do without tailgating as an option?
We are inching closer towards the 2020 college football season, but things will be different in Tuscaloosa. The University of Alabama has announced that tailgates will not be allowed for Alabama football games.
Tailgating is a strong tradition in the South. Fans approach the Quad on every Saturday with their families as they wait for their Crimson Tide to walk into Bryant-Denny Stadium. Drinks are mixed, games are played, and memories are made on any given Saturday. There are so many things for Crimson Tide fans to do. However, that will not be the case in 2020.
Tailgating is synonymous with Alabama football. Many fans will have no idea what to do as they wait for kickoff. Here are some ideas for Crimson Tide fans of all ages and locations.
What Alabama football fans should do without tailgating.
Host a socially distanced event at home
This is tricky, but there are ways to host safe events off of UA’s campus. Only do this if you plan on being socially distant and wearing masks, but you can have people over to your house. If you are not one of the lucky few with a ticket to an Alabama game, you likely won’t be on campus in the first place. You can sit in lawn chairs six feet apart, play socially-distanced corn hole, and spend some quality time with friends before you watch the game. Again, this must be done safely in order to work.
If you do not have the space to safely host a socially distanced event, then you could always have a Zoom tailgate. Make some food, hop on Zoom, and spend some virtual time with your friends before kickoff.
