Alabama Football: Things for fans to do instead of tailgating
By Dakota Cox
What else can Alabama football fans do?
Sleep in
This is one of the few years where you can sleep in and not miss much. Unless you are a huge fan of College Gameday, you can just avoid setting your alarm clock and rest before games begin. Most 11:00 tailgates start incredibly early, so take advantage of this opportunity.
Spend some time with your family
This doesn’t work as well for the college-aged readers, but many tailgaters use the time for family bonding. You throw the football on the Quad with your kids, take them to the Walk of Champions, and make it into the stadium. This is what my family did when we visited Tuscaloosa for Alabama football games. Without the ability to do this, you’ll have to make these moments on your own. Throw a football in the backyard, camp in the backyard overnight, or even just watch other college football games in the living room. Anything that your kids can remember when they are older will be worth the effort. It might not be as good as a typical Alabama football tailgate, but the family will love it.
Get some chores done
One of the negatives of having important football games every Saturday is that all of your weekend chores must be done on Sunday. The entire day is taken up by Alabama. If you’re staying home, you can take an hour and get some things done around the house. Do some laundry, mow the lawn, or fix the gutters. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, but anything you can cross off of your list will make your Sunday easier.
There are plenty of things that you can do instead of attending a tailgate. They might not be as fun as your typical day in Tuscaloosa, but you can still kill some time before kickoff.
