Kickers

Ok … I might have lied a little earlier when I said the QB position was the easiest to write about. This is the easiest to write about. Don’t draft a former Alabama football kicker. That becomes easier when there are none to draft. Here’s hoping that Will Reichard can turn that around.

Defense/Special Teams

Since you can’t draft single defensive or special teams players I will talk about defensive units led by former Alabama football players. There are really only two. The Washington Football Team defense has Tide players across the board and is poised to be a decent unit in 2020 with the addition of Chase Young in this year’s draft but they are still not a consistent option for fantasy.

The two defenses I am talking about are the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots. They are both elite units with former Crimson Tiders leading the way. For New England, it is Dont’a Hightower and for Pittsburgh, it is Minkah Fitzpatrick. Dont’a has been a staple on the Patriots for several years now and leads the first Patriots team without Tom Brady in 20 years.

Minkah is in a different situation but nobody can dispute the immediate impact he had on the Steelers in 2019. Much like the impact Minkah had on the Alabama football team during his time there, the Steelers were kings of defensive TDs in 2019. Many of them were by Minkah himself.

You can’t go wrong with drafting either of these defenses in 2020. I will say if you have the option I would take the Patriots slightly above the Steelers just because the Steelers will face the Ravens explosive offense twice as a divisional opponent, and they also have the Cowboys on the schedule which is another top tier offense. The Patriots only play the Ravens once and the Chiefs once. None of their other opponents are elite offensive teams.

2020 will be an interesting year in the NFL, especially in fantasy. If you are looking to fill out your fantasy roster with former Alabama guys it won’t be that hard in 2020. Unless you need a kicker.
