Eight practices and a scrimmage look at the Alabama football offensive depth chart.

Some Alabama football fans may agree with Crimson Tide, head coach, Nick Saban that early, depth charts do not matter. Waiting patiently for an official Depth Chart on Monday, Sept. 21 does not work for most of us. We want more. Much more – about which players are running with the first groups, which are in the second groups and any players with a chance to break into a two-deep.

The old football adage, ” it is not how good your first 25 are, it is how good the next 25 are” applies. Only this season, with potential, unpredictable quarantines, three-deep at every position has added importance.

The Offensive Depth Chart that follows gets into some three-deep situations. Eight practices into fall camp, there has not been enough information on several players who can gain key roles this fall. The format below is a three-deep when warranted, and even a couple of four-deeps, plus other players in each position mix.

The offensive formation used is four-wides, with an additional note about tight ends.

Special Teams at this point are straightforward: Ty Perine will punt; Will Reichard will kick field goals and extra points. Joseph Bulovas will handle kickoffs. Jaylen Waddle will return punts. Kickoff returners are not yet known. The snapper will be Thomas Fletcher.

Alabama Football Offensive Depth Chart – Quarterbacks

  • StarterMac Jones
  • QB2 – Bryce Young
  • QB3 – Paul Tyson
  • QB4 – Slade Bolden

Mac threw three touchdown passes in the scrimmage, but only completed 58 percent of his passes. He competed against the second unit defense. Several of his 26 completions were to running backs. Using the Tide’s talented backs in the passing game is good, but the shorter throws suggest Mac’s downfield throw completions were well under 58 percent.

Bryce Young will play. He could even win the starting job before the Missouri game. He has impressed early in fall camp. Though not confirmed, it is suspected he has been in quarantine. He is expected to practice on Tuesday.

Paul Tyson will see game action. He could be needed at any time. He is also better than many Alabama football fans realize. Slade Bolden will be the wildcat and emergency QB. He played some QB in high school.
