Keep up on the latest changes with this Alabama football, defensive depth chart.

Nick Saban, Pete Golding and the rest of the Alabama football defensive staff are looking at a rebuild. The 2019 defense was not bad but it was below standard for a Nick Saban, Alabama football defense.

Injuries to Dylan Moses, Josh McMillon, LaBryan Ray and a not fully healthy Terrell Lewis were the main problem. Terrell Lewis has moved on to the NFL but the other three experienced Crimson Tide players return.

The NFL also took away Xavier McKinney, Trevon Diggs, Shyhein Carter to go along with an exiting Jared Mayden. From last season’s nickel defense, only Patrick Surtain II returns for the 2020 season. Other players returning with game experience in the secondary are Josh Jobe, Jordan Battle and Daniel Wright.

With LaBryan Ray returning the defensive line has the least attrition. Two new starting outside linebackers are needed, A new starting safety, cornerback, Star and Money will fill four of the six defensive back positions in the Dime defense.

On the defensive line and at linebacker, situational rotation requires more than just starters. Eight capable and healthy defensive lineman are needed for a rotation. Five to six linebackers will also get frequent meaningful snaps.

The good news for Pete Golding (and he needs good news) is depth. The Alabama Crimson Tide has talented depth at every position.

So far in fall camp, the defense is said to be ahead of the offense. That is traditionally the case in the first half of fall camp.
