Alabama Football Defense Depth Chart – Linebackers

After last season’s devastating injuries, some Alabama football fans may be wary of too much excitement too soon. It is hard to not be pumped up. Dylan Moses is arguably the best linebacker in college football. A couple of sensational true freshmen will push and earn key snaps. At the least, the Crimson Tide linebackers will be much improved over last season.

There will be no freshmen starting at inside linebacker this season. Shane Lee and Christian Harris were thrown to the wolves last season. They did as well as anyone could expect. Inside linebacker in the SEC is no place for a true freshman. Christian Harris made the most progress last season. That he did, is remarkable, since he did not play linebacker in high school. A gifted athlete, Harris is in a strong position to start next to Dylan Moses this fall. He will have to beat out Josh McMillon, who would have started next to Moses last season, but for his injury. McMillon recently answered why he chose to come back for another season. He said he did not want to leave with a bad (11-2)  taste in his mouth. Such is Alabama football.

  • Inside Linebacker Starter – Dylan Moses
  • Inside Linebacker Starter – Christian Harris or Josh McMillon
  • Inside Linebacker Backup – Christian Harris or Josh McMillon
  • Inside Linebacker Backup – Shane Lee
  • Outside Linebacker Starter – Chris Allen
  • Outside Linebacker Starter – Ben Davis
  • Outside Linebacker Rotation – Will Anderson
  • Outside Linebacker Rotation – Drew Sanders
  • Outside Linebacker Backup – King Mwikuta and Kevin Harris
  • Inside Linebacker Backup – Jaylen Moody and Ale Kaho

The true freshmen, Anderson and Sanders have shined in early practices. Alabama football fans should not write off Mwikuta and Harris earning some snaps over the freshmen.

Other than Dylan Moses, no linebacker position is secure.
