A former Alabama football player has a new home.
NFL games are on the horizon, but rosters are still updating across the league. Most recently, a former Alabama football player found a new home via trade. Ronnie Harrison will now be playing for the Cleveland Browns after being traded by the Jacksonville Jaguars for a fifth-round pick.
Harrison was drafted in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft by Jacksonville after a successful college career. He had a lot of work to do before he could thrive in the NFL, but he has shown promise in his first two years. At age 23, Harrison has plenty of time to develop.
Jacksonville has now removed three key contributors from last year’s team within the past few weeks. They traded Yannick Ngakoue to Minnesota and released Leonard Fournette without a trade. As things currently stand, the Jaguars seem poised to tank the 2020-21 season and draft a new franchise quarterback next year.
Harrison will now join other former Alabama football players in Cleveland. The Browns drafted Mack Wilson, Harrison’s former teammate, in the 2019 NFL Draft. Although Wilson’s status this year remains unknown after a devastating injury, they appear to be the future of Cleveland’s defense. The Browns also drafted Jedrick Wills this year to be their franchise left tackle.
Cleveland is going to need Ronnie to produce early this season. They drafted LSU safety Grant Delpit, but injuries will keep him sidelined. The Browns have hopes to make it to the Playoffs, but their biggest question mark before this signing was the secondary. If Harrison continues to improve, things will be trending upward in Cleveland.
Harrison does not have a lot of time to familiarize himself with the Browns’ playbook. Their first NFL game is in just 10 days as they’ll face off against the reigning AFC North Champions.
This news is a bit surprising, but Alabama football fans will be rooting for Harrison as he makes a name for himself in Cleveland.
