Alabama football players are scattered across NFL teams.

The NFL has been dominated by Alabama football players for the past decade, and 2020 will be no different. Despite many Alabama players opting out of the season due to COVID-19 concerns, there are still 57 former Tide athletes on active NFL rosters. That’s enough to make an entire NFL team.

These players are scattered across every NFL division. The division with the most rostered Tide players is easily the AFC North due to the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. The Ravens have five Alabama  players on the team, while Cleveland and Pittsburgh each have three.

The Ravens are tied for the team with the most Alabama football players on roster with the Washington Football Team. All of Washington’s Tide players are on the defensive side of the football, and their list does not included Reuben Foster, who is currently on the Injured Reserve list.

Despite all of the success we see from former Alabama players, there are still four NFL Teams with no Tide players. Let’s dive into why that’s the case and when it will be rectified.

San Francisco 49ers

San Francisco only had one Alabama player on the team before the final round of cuts, and that was undrafted free agent Jared Mayden. Mayden’s path to the NFL was going to be challenging, but he still has a chance to make it on a practice squad. If things pan out for him, he will end up on an NFL roster before the end of the season.

New Orleans Saints

The Saints did not have a Tide player on their roster to start last year’s season, and they were not expected to have one in 2020. However, there is always a chance for a trade. They thrived with Mark Ingram in the backfield, so they know what an Alabama football player can do. If not, there will be plenty of draft prospects from Alabama in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Carolina Panthers

Carolina has rarely drafted Alabama players, but they took Christian Miller in the 2019 draft. However, he opted out of this NFL season due to COVID-19 concerns. Hopefully, Miller will have a spot on the team when he comes back. If not, I’m sure some NFL team will take a chance on the outside linebacker.

Kansas City Chiefs

KC might end up with an Alabama football player before the end of the season. Gehrig Dieter has always flirted with the practice squad and the active roster. He’s known to be close with Patrick Mahomes, and he still has time to show his talents in the NFL. If a receiver ever goes down for the Chiefs, look for Dieter to come back to the reigning Super Bowl champions.

There is always a small handful of NFL teams that have no Alabama football players, but the number will hopefully approach zero by 2021. There are plenty of young players from Alabama, and they have a lot to prove.
