Alabama football’s team captain candidates
Alex Leatherwood, LT
Alex Leatherwood was one of the many freshmen on the field in the 2017 National Championship game. As one of the few players with a ring on their finger, the rest of the offensive line can learn a lot from Leatherwood.
Last year was Leatherwood’s first season as the starting left tackle, and he was a shining star on the O-line. He will be even more important this year with Mac Jones being right-handed.
Alex Leatherwood has already shown tremendous leadership this season. He penned an essay in the name of racial justice earlier this summer. The team ended up reciting his essay in a video.
Leatherwood is another player who could have declared for the 2020 NFL Draft, but he can certainly improve his stock this season. If everything goes right for Leatherwood and Alabama football, he could become the second-best tackle in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Nick Saban loves for linemen to be on the list of team captains. The Crimson Tide love to battle in the trenches, and having a leader on the offensive line is always a great sign for success. Alabama has multiple seniors on the offensive line, but Leatherwood is perfect to take on the role as captain.
