Alabama Football: Georgia is all bark and no bite in 2020

Alabama football should have no trouble handling Georgia this season.

With an SEC-only schedule, all teams will be familiar with one another by the end of the season. Alabama football will play their divisional opponents, but they also have to face four of the seven SEC East teams. One team on the schedule is the Georgia Bulldogs, and they have a lot to say about how this season will go.

Fans and former coaches have been high on the Bulldogs since the end of last season. Jamie Newman was supposed to be a Heisman contender since the day he transferred to Georgia. Mark Richt even said that he would be the best quarterback in the SEC this season.

However, something got lost in communication between Kirby Smart and Newman. Smart landed transfer JT Daniels almost immediately after signing Newman, leaving the senior QB with few options. He’s not the only quarterback to choose Georgia and inevitably regretted the decision. He decided to opt-out of this college football season and prepare for the NFL Draft.

The narrative will now expectedly shift towards JT Daniels being the next star in Athens, but injuries are a legitimate concern. If he’s unable to keep a clean jersey, the Bulldogs might be in trouble against key opponents.

This is also a terrible year to start a transfer quarterback with injury concerns. D’Andre Swift is now playing in the NFL, and Georgia’s best offensive linemen from last season declared as well. Top target George Pickens will be available, but he has proven to be unreliable in terms of eligibility.

Despite these genuine concerns, Georgia fans will still believe that they have the best team in college football. As of right now, I would put them behind Florida and Alabama football in just the SEC. If JT Daniels is unable to start the season, they might slide behind LSU and Auburn.

Georgia is a good team, but they have a lot going against them in 2020. They also haven’t won a National Championship in 40 years, so there aren’t many reasons to believe that they’ll win it all even if they catch a break.

dark. Next. Still work to do in 2021 recruiting

They will be a challenge, but UGA will essentially be all talk in the upcoming season. Alabama football should teach the Bulldogs to behave in Bryant-Denny Stadium next month.
