Alabama Football: Crimson Tide players dominate NFL Week 1
By Dakota Cox
Alabama football players dominated Week 1 of the NFL season.
We’re used to seeing Alabama football players dominate in the NFL every week, but the first week of the 2020 NFL season takes the cake. Crimson Tide players were elite on both sides of the football in almost every game. This is to be expected, with only four teams currently having no Alabama athletes on their roster.
Here’s a roundup of the top performers across the NFL. All statistics are taken from ESPN.
Alabama football players who dominated in NFL Week 1
Josh Jacobs, RB, Las Vegas Raiders
Jacobs had a great rookie season, and he is on track for a sophomore surge with the Raiders. He scored the first touchdown for the Raiders in Vegas and had three total touchdowns on the day. He also combined for 139 total yards in the passing and running game.
Henry Ruggs III, Las Vegas Raiders
Ruggs’ NFL debut was limited due to an injury, but he still led the Raiders in receiving yards. He is off to a great start for his rookie year, including a great catch to set up Jacobs’ first touchdown.
Ruggs was tagged as a player to watch this week, and he lived up to the NFL Draft hype.
OJ Howard, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Howard caught Tom Brady’s first touchdown pass with the Bucs and had 36 total receiving yards. Brady will utilize tight ends this year, and it appears after one game that Howard will see an increased role in the new offense.
Washington Football Team Defense
Alabama football players are in an abundance in Washington’s defense, and they dominated against the Eagles. The defense racked up eight sacks, including half a sack from each Jonathan Allen and Da’Ron Payne. The defensive line will lead the way for Washington, and it will be led by these two players.
Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, WRs, Atlanta Falcons
Jones and Ridley combined for 18 catches, 287 total yards, and 2 touchdowns. This is insane for any receiver pairing, but it’s even crazier when you realize that they both played for Alabama football. The Tide has become WRU in recent years, and this is evidence of that.
There are a few Alabama football players left to play in Week 1. Derrick Henry and Jerry Jeudy will begin their seasons with Monday Night Football. Expect more success from the Crimson Tide as the season wraps up.
