Alabama Football: 2020 preseason SEC power rankings
By Dakota Cox
Is Alabama football the best team in the SEC this year?
SEC football is only a week away. Before we play a single down, where do the teams line up right now? With an SEC-only schedule, we should have a good idea about how teams stack up against each other by the end of the year. Is Alabama football the best team in the SEC?
Let’st start with at the bottom and go from there.
14. Arkansas Razorbacks
I’ve said multiple times that I believe Arkansas will go winless. The switch to a conference-only schedule does not do the Razorbacks any favors. They have little hope to upset any of the SEC West powerhouses. Unless they can catch Mississippi State or Ole Miss off-guard, they’ll be 0-6 in the SEC West.
Their SEC East schedule doesn’t do them any favors. They have to play the two best teams in the East, plus an improved Tennessee Volunteers team. Their best hope to get a win is against the Missouri Tigers, and I think Mizzou will be better prepared for that game.
Even with Feleipe Franks under center, I doubt Arkansas has what it takes to succeed in the SEC this year.
13. Vanderbilt Commodores
Vanderbilt is always going to be near the bottom of the SEC football power rankings. Derek Mason has been the head coach in Nashville since James Franklin left, and they have seen minimal success. The only reason for Alabama football fans to watch Vandy play this year is to see if former Tide receiver Mac Hereford gets some time with the Commodores.
