Bold predictions for Alabama football’s defense

This will be the best front seven since 2016

It’s been a while since Alabama football has had a truly dominant front seven. The best unit in recent memory was 2015 and 2016. This unit will be better than all of the teams since then.

What made 2016’s defense legendary was its depth. Alabama football could rotate players on the defensive line to fit almost every situation an offense could throw at them. Their inside linebackers could play sideline to sideline, and they scored non-offensive touchdowns in almost every game.

This defense won’t score as many touchdowns or force as many turnovers, but they will rotate plenty of bodies on the defensive line. With Ben Davis on the second string at outside linebacker, he will definitely get his reps. Alabama also finally has depth at the inside linebacker position.

One or two injuries could change this equation completely, but Alabama will enter the season with one of the best defenses in the SEC. In 2020, depth will matter more than ever. Ever since Alabama has prioritized the defensive line in recruiting, the depth has improved every year. This year will be the perfect mixture of veteran production and young depth to make an overall elite unit.

Alabama’s defense will certainly improve from last year. If these bold predictions prove to be true, the Crimson Tide will be hard to handle.
