Duds

Third Down Defense

Saban lamented after the Missouri loss about the defense not getting off the field on third down. The repeat issues reared its ugly head Saturday.

The Tide allowed the Aggies to convert 10 of 17 attempts. Their next two opponents, Ole Miss and Georgia, will gash Alabama if the defense cannot make stops on crucial downs. Defensive coordinator Pete Golding has to fix the mental lapses and breakdowns on the defense.

Running Game

With four starters on the offensive line returning from last season, expecting a dominating offensive line is not out of the question. The unit has excelled by giving Mac Jones a clean pocket to throw. Defenders are not even getting the chance to sniff him.

However, the running game stalled with Najee Harris (12 carries for 43 yards) in the game. The line did not get enough push against a decent Aggies defensive front. The cause for concern is in two weeks, Georgia brings a stout run defense.

The next challenge for Alabama football is the Ole Miss Rebels at 5 pm on the road. Lane Kiffin is waiting and excited to ruin the Crimson Tide’s title chances.
