2. Alabama (3-0) 92 points

Last week’s ranking: No. 1

Just to show you how important defense is to a bunch of Alabama football bloggers, the Tide rang up over 700 yards of offense and 63 points in a 15-point away victory over a divisional foe and we’re all pissed. Mac Jones and Najee Harris were incredible in the win over Ole Miss, with Jones passing for over 400 yards and two touchdowns and Harris running for 206 yards and five touchdowns. OC Steve Sarkisian’s game plan was foolproof. There was only one Tide punt the entire game. There were also only two punts from Ole Miss, meaning that the Alabama defense didn’t look like anything close to a defense at all. With UGA coming to Tuscaloosa next weekend, it will be imperative to clean up any and all mistakes.

1. Georgia (3-0) 97 points

Last week’s ranking: No. 2

The Bulldogs are our new No. 1 team in this week’s power rankings and it’s hard not to see why: that defense is next level. The front seven is as dastardly a bunch as you’ll see in college football this year with nary a weakness among them. They have pass rushers, run stoppers and monsters everywhere. And while the offense is still trying to find an identity that can match the Alabamas and Floridas of the world, what does it matter when the other side of the ball is holding a very good team to less than thirty yards rushing. This team is for real and from where we stand right now, looks like the SEC’s best chance for a representative in the College Football Playoff.
