Week 4 of the SEC season is in the books. Alabama football beat Georgia to become the SEC’s last unbeaten team. Where does the rest of the SEC stack up?
If you would have forced me to make a pick on this week’s Alabama football vs. Georgia football game I wouldn’t have done it. The teams were EXTREMELY close in my mind and I think the game certainly reflected that. Especially in the first half.
The second half was still very close in production by both offenses, but Georgia made too many mistakes and couldn’t stay on the field which negatively impacted their defense. Don’t let the somewhat lopsided final score fool you. Those are the two best teams in the SEC. Alabama football won round one. If we get a round two in December it will be a knock-down-drag-out fight.
Although it was a fantastic game, we are not here to break down the Alabama football win. It is time for the weekly power rankings. I think with only one unbeaten team left in the league that the No. 1 for this week is a foregone conclusion, but who were the biggest movers in the middle of a tightly packed race?
The Arkansas Razorbacks made a significant statement with a very good defensive performance against an Ole Miss team that just put up 48 points on the Crimson Tide. The Auburn Tigers laid an egg against an underwhelming South Carolina Gamecocks team. Tennessee was back last week when they put up a good fight against Georgia, but after an embarrassing loss to Kentucky the biggest meme in the SEC will make a resurgence.
It was a wild week of SEC football that saw upsets, close games, and the first postponed games of the year. As we do each week every Bama Hammer staffer was given the opportunity to rank each team 1-14. Each team was given points in reverse order of standings (14 points for a 1st place vote and 1 point for a 14th place vote). This week we had eight staffers give their rankings which means there are 112 points possible.
Let’s kick it off with Nos. 14-11.
