No. 8  (tie)- Auburn Tigers; 32 points – previous ranking No. 10

The luck-blessed Aubies won again and again there was a questionable call. The Tigers are 3-2, but could easily be 1-4, with referee dispensed breaks against Arkansas and Ole Miss leading to Auburn victories.

Gus Malzahn is a long way from being a top coach in the SEC, but he is undeniably the luckiest. LSU travels to Auburn in week nine, for what will be an interesting and pivotal game.

No. 8 (tie) – Kentucky Wildcats; 32 points – previous ranking No. 6

The up and down Wildcats are now 2-3, with the Georgia Bulldogs coming to Lexington on Saturday. Their big win over the then No. 18 ranked (AP Poll) Tennessee Volunteers is fading. In addition to Georgia, the Wildcats have the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Florida Gators in the second half of the SEC season.

No. 10 – Tennessee Volunteers; 30 points – previous ranking No. 9

Another SEC season and of course another loss to Alabama Football. Irrational exuberance is rapidly dissipating in  Knoxville. The Vols have a week off to regroup before being away at Arkansas, followed by games against the Aggies, Auburn, Vandy and Florida.

No. 11 – South Carolina; 23 points; previous ranking No. 7

The bottom four in the SEC will not be enough to save Will Muschamp’s job. Now at 2-3, the Gamecocks may not be favored in another game this season.

No. 12 – Ole Miss; 19 points; previous ranking No. 8

Despite the sharp, offensive mind of Lane Kiffin, the Rebels are last in the SEC West at 1-4. Two points are notable. One is while the Ole Miss defense improves, unlike the Crimson Tide, other SEC defenses are handling Lane’s offense. Will Lane ever prove himself as a head coach, is the other.

No. 13 – Mississippi State; 10 points; previous ranking No. 13

The only thing interesting about Mississippi State football is Mike Leach. Possibly interesting is how much success Leach’s Air Raid has in Tuscaloosa on Halloween night.

No. 14 – Vanderbilt; 5 points; previous ranking No. 14

Sadly for Commodore fans and other SEC fans who pity them – there is nothing new to say. The Dores have seven more games to find a way, to not go winless.
