Alabama football’s report card vs. Mississippi State

Quarterbacks: B+

Mac Jones was a tad inconsistent in this game. He has been playing out of his mind recently, but this game wasn’t perfect. He still dominated, but that was expected against this defense. He threw for less than 300 yards, which is very surprising.

Mac Jones usually gets a ton of yards and only a couple of touchdowns due to Najee Harris. In this one, he scored four touchdowns without the crazy yardage numbers. This was a bit of a modest game from Jones, but he still did what his team needed him to do. As the season progresses, he will have to rely on more than just DeVonta Smith.

Kicker: A

Will Reichard was perfect yet again. He didn’t have any incredibly difficult kicks, but he made them all. That’s the weird thing about grading kickers. He literally could not have played better, but he didn’t have any opportunity to truly shine.

Punter: B

Charlie Scott has won the starting job at punter, and he has gotten the punting game back to normal heights. Scott doesn’t have the same leg as his NFL-punter brother, but he is a solid punter who can do his part. He didn’t have any shanks, which is already an improvement from Alabama’s last punter.

All in all, Alabama football should be proud of how they played against Mississippi State. They remained mostly healthy and dominated against an easy opponent. They will have tougher opponents, but this was a good game overall.
