What will happen with Kira Lewis in the 2020 NBA Draft?

In less than a week, Alabama basketball fans will finally learn where their star Kira Lewis will land in the 2020 NBA Draft. The draft usually takes place in the summer, but this year will be different for many reasons. Not only will Kira have to deal with a long wait to find his future home, but he will also have to deal with a quick turnaround between the draft and the NBA season. For these reasons and more, the draft could go in almost any direction.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at three realistic scenarios for how this draft can go. Each scenario comes with its pros and cons. There are also plenty of landing spots with each scenario. Let’s start with the situation that will earn Kira Lewis the most money.

What if Kira Lewis goes early in the 2020 NBA Draft Lottery?

This definitely has the potential to happen. Kira has the upside that NBA scouts are looking for, and his game translates well to where the NBA is heading. With little opportunity to evaluate so many players, scouts are mostly going to rely on potential. However, some will view Kira Lewis as a project due to his age. They might learn towards drafting an international player or an upperclassman due to the craziness of 2020.

For the sake of the argument, where might Kira Lewis land if he is drafted early in the 2020 NBA Draft? Without trades, the absolute earliest I could see him landing is at No. 7. That would have him going to Detroit to play for the Pistons. While this would not be a great fit, Detroit has needs across the board. However, this feels unlikely.

A more realistic scenario would be the New York Knicks drafting him one pick later. New York has drafted point guards in the past, but they have not panned out. The Knicks had interest in Collin Sexton, so they might want to take his replacement with Alabama basketball.
