Alabama Basketball: 3 ideal landing spots for Kira Lewis
By Dakota Cox
Alabama basketball fans should be rooting for this to happen.
Kira Lewis will find out on Wednesday where he will start his NBA career. After two great years with Alabama basketball, Lewis declared for the NBA Draft. His stock has risen, but his landing spot remains up in the air.
Kira Lewis has essentially 30 potential companies that will hire him, but some would certainly jumpstart his career. Although some teams are certainly more likely to draft him, anything can happen on draft night. Players can be drafted and traded before they reach the stage. Because of this, let’s look at ideal landing spots for the Alabama basketball star. For these rankings, draft capital is thrown out of the window. Obviously, Kira Lewis will be hoping to go as early as possible. However, these would be the best landing spots for his career.
3. Phoenix Suns
This seems to be a trendy pick for Kira Lewis, but many believe that the odds of this went out the window when the Suns traded for Chris Paul. However, I believe that this is trade actually makes Phoenix a more attractive landing spot. With Kira Lewis being so young, it will be important for him to have a mentor. I can’t think of a better mentor than Chris Paul for a point guard. The Thunder proved last year that Paul is capable of playing alongside other point guards. Phoenix would be a competitive team that would give Lewis a great chance of taking over in the future.
2. Miami Heat
This would also give Kira Lewis a chance to compete early. Adding him to the young core of Bam Adebayo, Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson would be fun to watch. He could also take over as the starting point guard once Goran Dragic’s contract expires. The Heat are ready to compete in the Eastern Conference for the foreseeable future, and Lewis would look great in a Miami jersey.
1. Los Angeles Clippers
This is the most unlikely of the three scenarios, but it would still be great for Kira. Los Angeles is a title contender, but they could really use a new point guard. Patrick Beverley is a great rotational piece, but he is far from a franchise player. Lewis could start soon for the Clippers as they try to win a national championship.
Alabama basketball fans hope that Lewis will do great regardless of the landing spot, but there is no denying that these teams are the best-case scenario for him. We will find out where he goes during the NBA Draft on Wednesday.
