Alabama football studs and duds vs. Kentucky

Stud: Bryce Young

Young only got a few reps at quarterback, but he proved that he is the future for the Crimson Tide. When Alabama football gets plenty of reserve players in the game, you love to see the backups show their talent. Young made a few beautiful throws that showed his potential and scored the first touchdown of his college career. With all things considered, it was a great outing for the freshman quarterback.

Stud: DeVonta Smith

With Jaylen Waddle potentially out for the year, expect DeVonta Smith to be a repeater on this list. He is easily Alabama football’s best weapon in the passing game, and he broke the SEC career receiving touchdowns record against the Wildcats. He topped things off with a second touchdown in the final few drives.

Dud: Adjusting to motion

Alabama has continued to struggle with the pre-snap motions from offenses. They adjusted as the game progressed, but Kentucky managed to march down the field early in this one. You can chalk that up to rust, but it still caused the Crimson Tide defense to sputter early. We’ll see how things go as the season continues.

Dud: The Mac Jones deep ball

Mac Jones has been lighting defenses up all season. In this game, Alabama football stuck with a conservative gameplan. It paid off, but things weren’t perfect. We didn’t see many deep passes from Mac Jones, and one of them led to his only interception. He will have to improve against Auburn in this week’s game.

After so much time away from the game, things went relatively well for Alabama. They still have room to improve, but they should be proud of their achievements.
