Alabama basketball bold predictions for 2020

1. Alabama will make it to the Sweet 16

Alabama always comes into the basketball season with high hopes. Their dreams have fallen flat over the last two years, but there is a reason to believe that this year will be different. Nate Oats has finally been given a chance to recruit his own players, and they will see key roles in the offense.

Alabama returns Herb Jones and John Petty, two of the three leaders from last year’s team. They also return Jaden Shackelford. Shackelford is a sharpshooter who will only get better with more coaching from Oats. From Jordan Bruner to Josh Primo, the incoming talent is impressive. Alabama basketball will have one of the deepest rosters in the NCAA, and that will matter as the season progresses.

Alabama will be tested with a daunting SEC schedule. If they can get to the NCAA Tournament, they will be ready to take on almost anyone. At that point, it essentially comes down to who they will have to play. If they have a strong resume, they should have an easier path to the Sweet 16. That is far from a lock, but these predictions are bold for a reason.

Alabama basketball failed to get to the Sweet 16 with Collin Sexton on board, so it will be challenging to do so now. However, Nate Oats is cooking something special in Tuscaloosa. This will be the season where it all comes together.
