Alabama football bold predictions in Iron Bowl

4. A freshman receiver will shine

Alabama football started the season with great depth at the wide receiver position, but two injuries have hurt the Crimson Tide. Not only is Waddle potentially out for the year, but Slade Bolden went down with an injury last week. Even if he is available, Bolden will likely see a limited role against the Auburn Tigers.

That leaves Alabama with Smitty and John Metchie as healthy veterans in the WR corps. They will be great, but the Tide would love to add a third option if Bolden is out. That’s where the freshmen come to play.

Alabama has two freshmen stars on the roster. Javon Baker has what it takes to be the next Alabama legend, and Thaiu Jones-Bell has the potential to shine as well.

Ideally, one of these two weapons will make some plays for the Crimson Tide. Auburn can’t stop everyone. These players will likely be forgotten while prepping for the Alabama offense, so they have a chance to make some plays if they see the field.

Mac Jones proved early this year that he can distribute the ball evenly. That being said, we haven’t seen the freshmen get a lot of targets. This might be the game where that changes. If so, Alabama will get a glimpse into the future at the wide receiver position.
