Alabama Football: Tide’s report card in 2020 Iron Bowl
By Dakota Cox
Did Alabama football pass their latest test?
After losing two of the last three Iron Bowls, Alabama football came into this game looking for redemption. Seniors on both sides of the football decided to return, and they made part of their decision because of this game. The Tide came into Saturday with a chance to make a statement for many things. Mac Jones is in Heisman contention, the offensive line wants to win the Joe Moore Award and the whole team wanted to prove that they are easily the best team in college football.
The Crimson Tide took steps in the right direction against Auburn on Saturday. Their offensive unit showed balance, their defense stepped up and the Tide won handily. This was a chance for Alabama football to make a statement, and they did just that.
Alabama passed their test this Iron Bowl. That being said, how did each group do? Here is the Crimson Tide report card for this year’s Iron Bowl victory.
Tight Ends: B+
Jahleel Billingsley has seen his role increase over the last few games, and he scored his first touchdown in the first half of this one. We will see more and more of him during his Alabama football career.
Alabama now has two pass-catching tight ends. Miller Forristall also had a catch in the first half. With Alabama losing receivers, it is more important for tight ends and running backs to be used in the passing game. Billingsley is slowly overtaking Forristall as the team’s best pass-catching tight end.
Alabama has also used blocking tight ends well this season. That was no different in this game.
