Jalen Hurts deserves better after what happened with Alabama football.

Alabama football grew Jalen Hurts into a household name. He grew as a quarterback in Tuscaloosa before becoming a Heisman contender for Oklahoma. He is now finally playing in the NFL, but he is in a terrible situation. Hurts deserves better than the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles won a Super Bowl just a few seasons ago, but they have struggled since then. They need to retool, but their issues are bigger than the players. They have proven to be incapable of putting players in a position to succeed.

When the Eagles drafted Jalen Hurts, people expected him to be used as a gadget guy. With Carson Wentz as the starter, how else would Hurts see the field? Philly has used him like this in some instances, but they have barely given him a chance to throw the ball. They are essentially making him their wildcat quarterback, which is far from enough to justify drafting him in the second round.

The most egregious act took place on Monday Night Football. There were reports all week that Jalen Hurts would see more reps against the Seattle Seahawks. Things haven’t worked so far, and it looked like the Eagles would finally give him a chance to play. We’ve been saying that Hurts deserves a chance to start, but we’d settle for more snaps as the only quarterback on the field.

After a quarter of poor play from Carson Wentz, we finally saw Jalen Hurts for the first time. He trotted onto the field, and Alabama football fans wondered if this would be the start of the Jalen Hurts era in Philly.

Jalen Hurts completed one pass and was replaced immediately. He later handed the ball off, and that was all he did in this game.

Hurts is doing everything right. Wentz looked better as he was given more opportunities, but he still struggled. He could not convert deep passes and had a costly interception late in the game. All Wentz did efficiently was scramble around for extra yardage, which is arguably Jalen’s best trait.

This is not fair for Hurts. It was one thing when he had to sit behind a shining star for Alabama football. His superior is failing to do his job. Philadelphia needs to at least give Jalen Hurts a shot. However, the Eagles haven’t proven that they are capable of helping Jalen grow if he plays.

Putting in Hurts for one pass does absolutely nothing. It doesn’t help your case for winning the game. It doesn’t help Jalen Hurts’ development. If anything, it causes more chaos. There is no other way to word it. Jalen Hurts deserves better than what the Philadelphia Eagles are doing for him.
