Alabama Football: Check out these score predictions for potential Crimson Tide CFB Playoff opponents.

Many Alabama football fans are ready to jump to the post-season. With wins against LSU and Arkansas all but assured, attention can be given to post-season games.

It is too early to know the three other College Football Playoff teams, but it is not hard to guess who they will be and assess which one poses the greatest threat to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Members of the Bama Hammer staff collaborated on score predictions for potential Playoff games against Notre Dame, Ohio State and Clemson. To round out the post-season projecting, we did the same for Florida as the SEC Championship game opponent.

Our collaborative conclusions might surprise, and in at least one case, our take on one team does not match the national dialog.

Alabama Football vs. Florida Gators – SEC Championship Game

The Crimson Tide will be a solid favorite against the Florida Gators. Florida, currently ranked No. 5 in the Coaches Poll and No. 6 in the AP Poll, is not given much of a chance to make the CFB Playoff. The main reason why is the Crimson Tide standing in Florida’s way.

Alabama 47 – Florida 34

Both teams have explosive offenses. The Crimson Tide has an edge from a balanced offense, compared to Florida and its pass-dependent attack. Defensively the Crimson Tide defense is superior to the Florida defense.

Alabama Football vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Many in the national media are claiming the Irish are the most complete team in college football. We are not buying into all the hype. Being Brian Kelly’s best Notre Dame is not enough to overcome the fact Notre Dame is perennially overrated.

Alabama 44 – Notre Dame 25

We are not saying Notre Dame is not a good football team. They are just not good enough to be a serious threat to the Crimson Tide.

Alabama Football vs. Ohio State Buckeyes

Ryan Day’s team is tough to rate. The Buckeyes have only played four games. The competition in at least three of them has been lacking. The talent level is comparable to the Crimson Tide. Justin Fields is the type of quarterback known to challenge a Crimson Tide defense. We could be underrating them. ESPN’s Playoff Predictor gives the Buckeyes the second-best chance to with the National Championship.

Bama Hammer Crimson Tide vs. Ohio State Prediction

Alabama 42 – Ohio State 30

It was not intentional, but our prediction suggests the Buckeyes are an only slightly bigger threat to the Tide than the Gators.

 Alabama Football vs. Clemson Tigers Prediction

The National Championship game coming down to Bama and Clemson – again, would surprise few fans. We expect Clemson to beat Notre Dame in the ACC Championship game. Whether that knocks the Irish out of the Playoff picture remains to be seen.

Alabama 38 – Clemson 34

Dabo has two potent offensive threats in Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne. The pair would stress the Tide defense. After losing Justyn Ross to injury, the Clemson wide receivers are not as threatening as past Clemson units. The Tigers are decent on the offensive line.  Most of the Tigers’ defense is just above average. Unlike 2018, the Tide has a better defensive line and the Tide corners are much better. Injured Clemson wide receiver, Joseph Ngata could return for the Playoffs, somewhat minimizing the loss of Ross.
