Alabama Football: LSU players to know vs. Crimson Tide
By Dakota Cox
Which LSU Tigers will give Alabama football problems?
After a few weeks of uncertainty, Alabama football finally has a chance to get revenge on the LSU Tigers. LSU has gone from the White House to the outhouse in a few short months, so Alabama is expected to win easily. However, LSU still has talent on the field. Even if they have failed to put all of the pieces together, some athletes have shown glimpses this season.
These are some players to watch as Alabama football looks to get revenge on the Tigers.
Derek Stingley Jr.
Stingley is easily the best player on LSU’s team. He shined as a freshman, but he has been relatively quiet in 2020. That is partly because of the lack of talent around him. Sophisticated offenses will simply throw to the other side of the field. That was not possible with last year’s group of defensive backs, but it works in 2020.
DeVonta Smith held his own against Stingley in 2019, and he will likely see him for most of this game. Smith has been the best wide receiver in college football this year, so watch out for him to shine once again on Saturday.
JaCoby Stevens
Stevens was a forgotten piece of last year’s defense, but he has stepped up as a leader this year. He has failed to get an interception, but he has improved as a box safety. Stevens has 2.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a couple of recoveries. On a team filled with disappointments, he has been the closest to a bright spot for the LSU Tigers. He also leads the team in tackles, which is not necessarily ideal for a safety.
John Emery Jr.
LSU rolls two running backs in most games. Emery has few carries, but he averages more yards per touch and has caught more passes. He is more of a weapon, and the Tigers will probably prepare him to be the feature back in 2021. Alabama football has improved against the running game, but they will need to stop Emery in this one.
LSU doesn’t have a lot to be proud of this season. However, their issues have no problems with talent. This LSU team has quality players, and all three of these players have talent. Regardless, Alabama football has an answer for anything the Tigers have.
