Alabama football could win many awards this season

Every season, Alabama football is expected to compete for the national championship. That will certainly be the case for 2020, but there are other players in contention win bring home some hardware this season.

Let’s start with the offensive line. Alabama football’s line has what it takes to win the Joe Moore Award, which is given to the best offensive line in college football. It is led by multiple upperclassmen on both the interior and exterior of the line, and the unit has improved each and every week.

There are also individual awards on the line. One award that seems to be locked is the Bednarik award for the best wide receiver. If DeVonta Smith fails to win that award, I would be truly shocked. There is no one doing what Smitty is doing for the Crimson Tide this year. After coming back for his senior season, he has found another gear with Mac Jones and this offense.

In the three games since the Jaylen Waddle injury, Smith has averaged nearly 175 yards a game. He’s also scored 8 touchdowns in those games after scoring just four touchdowns in the first five games of the 2020 season. Needless to say, he is the best receiver in college football right now.

There are other players who will look for individual awards. One potential award winner is Najee Harris for the Doak Walker Award. There are many running backs in contention for this award, but Harris has been the most consistent this season.

It will also be interesting to see who wins the Thorpe Award. This goes to the best defensive back in college football. Many assumed it would go to Derek Stingley Jr., but both Patrick Surtain and Malachi Moore have played better than him so far. We’ll see what happens in this race after Alabama football gets to play LSU on Saturday.

Of course, the one award with talking about is the Heisman Trophy. Mac Jones is in the lead right now, but this race will go down to the SEC Championship.

Alabama players could win any of these awards. However, it is safe to say that all of them would trade in the individual accolades for a ring in January.
