5 takeaways from Alabama football in the SEC Championship

4. Najee Harris is a top-2 running back in Alabama history

We have seen some historic seasons from Alabama running backs. From Mark Ingram to Derrick Henry, plenty of backs have become legends. It seems like Alabama has multiple stars every season at running back. Even with all of these players, Najee Harris is there with the best.

Alabama’s system has pivoted towards the passing game in recent years. If Najee were playing in the old Alabama offense, he would likely be a lock to win the Heisman Trophy. Even with the system, he is still having a heck of a career.

There has always been a debate about the best running backs in Alabama football history. Derrick Henry will likely always be the top guy. I would put Najee Harris right behind him thanks to his play as a senior. Even though Mark Ingram won the Heisman, Harris has broken career records during his time with the Tide.

Najee scored four touchdowns in just the first half. He is one of the most explosive backs that Saban has ever coached, and he does it all. From running to blocking to receiving, there isn’t a facet of his game that leaves anything to be desired.

Najee might win the Heisman, but he needs to be discussed as a top back regardless.
