Alabama football’s takeaways from the SEC Championship

2. Alabama has to win in a shootout

We have seen this defense improve each and every week. They deserve credit for what they have accomplished, and Pete Golding needs credit for his role in it. That being said, there is still so much room to grow, and they are running out of time.

Kyle Trask gave the Tide everything they could handle in this game. The secondary got cooked repeatedly by Kadarius Toney, and Trask completed too many deep shots. We knew that Florida had an elite passing game, but Alabama expected to do better on the defensive side of the football.

Even with this weak performance, Alabama won the game. That shows that the Crimson Tide can’t win a low-scoring game. If they want to win a ring, they will have to score on almost every play.

One of the only teams that can beat Alabama is Clemson. They would give the Tide the toughest test with their dynamic offense. The defense isn’t what it used to be, but it might be enough to slow down the Crimson Tide. We’ll see if this matchup ends up happening in the postseason. Either way, the defense can’t shut down a powerful offense. In those types of games, Alabama football will rely on their own stars on the offensive side of the football.
