Alabama Football: After adding a 5-Star and 4-Star ’21 class not finished
By Ronald Evans
Alabama Football: The Crimson Tide is on more than a Texas-roll in recruiting. Top prospects are left in the ’21 class.
In the Alabama Football 2021 recruiting class, Texas has been the hotbed for the Crimson Tide. With the recent additions of 5-Star, running back, Camar Wheaton and 4-Star offensive guard, Jaeden Roberts, the haul from the Lone Star state is seven players.
Wheaten, nicked away from the Oklahoma Sooners, is yet to sign. Lincoln Riley will not give up on him until February. The Crimson Tide did not have running back as a position of need in the ’21 class. Wheaten, loaded with talent, including break-away speed, was too good for the Alabama football staff to miss. Check out his highlights below.
That the Tide staff was willing to add to an already tremendous offensive line class, says much about the potential of Jaeden Roberts. The 340-pound Roberts is quick and agile for a man so large. He could play either guard or tackle for the Crimson Tide. Though it has not been discussed, he could also become a standout defensive lineman. Flipping him from Auburn just makes gaining his signature more special for Crimson Tide fans.
The 2021 class has 25 signees and a 26th player with the verbal commitment of Camar Wheaton. Alabama football insiders have said for the months the Crimson Tide would sign 27 in the ’21 class. Does that mean Nick Saban is one player away from being finished for the cycle?
All indications are he is not. At least three more recruits are being pursued for a February signing. The top priorities are listed below, along with their ranking in the 247Sports Composite.
- 5-Star, No. 3 player overall, Defensive End, J.T. Tulmoloau
- 4-Star, No. 79 player overall, Wide Receiver, Brian Thomas Jr.
- 4-Star, No. 106 player overall, Defensive Back, Terrion Arnold
None of the three are currently considered February locks for the Crimson Tide. The odds of signing all three are small. If all three decide to roll with the Tide, Nick Saban will find room in the class. There are no specifics on how Saban would make room, but one or two grayshirt options might be mutually chosen.
More clear is the Crimson Tide will have the 2021 No. 1 class. It might well have the highest-rated recruiting class of all-time. Based on the 247Sports Composite the ’21 class is rated at 323.66. The highest Crimson Tide class ever was rated at 323.87 in 2017. Going back to 2002, only one college football signing class was rated higher. It was the 2010 Florida Gators class.
The recruiting success of Tide assistants, Charles Huff, Karl Scott and Jeff Banks is sensational. They are the top three recruiters in the nation as measured by 247Sports. The entire staff is to be commended for landing six of the most elite players from the state of Texas.
