Alabama football’s Najee Harris discussed his past while preparing for the CFP.
Alabama football is days away from playing in the Rose Bowl, but one star took a moment during a press conference to reflect on his past. While Najee Harris has found stability in Tuscaloosa, he did not have that at home.
Harris was asked about his past and his relationship with Josh Jacobs. Jacobs was another star running back who is making a name for himself in the NFL. Jacobs also battled homelessness before coming to Tuscaloosa.
While Harris did not say much about playing alongside Jacobs, he discussed his upbringing. Harris said, “I overcame a lot at a young age, but … I wouldn’t take any of it back.”
Harris went on to detail what he has learned from his hardships. He said that he learned a lot about finances and how to appreciate the little things in life. He added that he is grateful for what he has now.
This is not the first time that Najee Harris has discussed his past with the media. In an interview with 247 during his high school days, Najee talked about how he had lived in multiple shelters before. He also lived with various relatives and even in the family’s car. One place had ants crawling over the food, and Harris’s father was verbally and physically abusive.
Najee overcame all of this to become one of the best recruits in his class. He now is on the verge of playing in the NFL and following in Josh Jacobs’s footsteps. Najee will likely be the first running back drafted in 2021, and he will make an NFL team happy.
Najee’s story is complex, but it has always been clear that he is more than an Alabama football player. He may be elite on the field, but he has just as much strength and determination off of the field. He will be an Alabama football legend for everything he has done.
