Looking back at our Alabama football predictions

Predicting studs and duds

We usually use studs and duds to reflect on games or a season. However, we decided to attempt to look into the future as we predicted studs and duds for 2020 around the SEC. We kept it simple with two studs and two duds. I think it is safe to say that we hit it out of the park.

Studs: Najee Harris and Kyle Trask

Najee was nearly a Heisman finalist and the frontrunner for the Doak Walker Award. He leads college football in rushing touchdowns, and he will be considered one of the best running backs to ever play for Nick Saban. In no uncertain terms, Najee Harris has been a stud in 2020.

Kyle Trask has also been a stud. He led Florida to the SEC East title (which I predicted in this piece) and became a Heisman finalist. While he will almost certainly be on the outside looking in when the winner is announced, he has still had a great year.

Duds: Jamie Newman and LSU’s chances to repeat

This article came out before Newman announced that he would be opting out of the 2020 Georgia football season. I predicted this because I expected JT Daniels to become the starter by the end of the season. While I ended up being right, I still expected Newman to see the field some. Nonetheless, he was technically a dud in the SEC.

The LSU prediction was too obvious. They have talent on the roster, but they had no chance of repeating in the SEC or national title games. Without their Heisman quarterback and practically every starter, this was an unreachable goal.
