2. Steve Sarkisian coaching in his last game for Alabama
Sarkisian has been the best coordinator that Alabama has ever had. He has set just about every offensive record in Alabama football history. He coached four first-round receivers on one team, and Alabama has two Heisman candidates this season.
Fans knew the day would come when Sarkisian would take a new head coaching job. That day is here, as Sark will be taking over for Tom Herman at Texas. This is bad news, but it could be a lot worse. Thankfully, Alabama will retain Sarkisian for the championship game.
Alabama has a history of using coaches who were on their way out the door. Kirby Smart and Jeremy Pruitt handled it with class. Lane Kiffin struggled to balance both responsibilities. That is why he inevitably left the job before the title game.
Thankfully, Sarkisian only has to balance responsibilities for a couple of weeks. He can then focus on all of the responsibilities that will come with being Texas’s head coach. No matter how the CFP national championship goes, it will be his final game as Alabama’s offensive coordinator.
Sarkisian’s time as an offensive coordinator started with a national championship game. He will be looking for redemption against the Ohio State Buckeyes in Miami. We’ll see if he gets it before heading out to Austin.
