Studs and duds for Alabama football and the SEC

Dud: Dylan Moses

I had to put one Alabama football player on the dud list. While this team exceeded all expectations, Dylan Moses struggled. After having a season-ending injury last year, you could expect a slower curve. Still, he never reached where he was before getting hurt. Alabama still won the title, but there is no doubt that Moses did not live up to his own expectations.

Dud: Georgia Bulldogs

Georgia expected to be competing for a national championship this year. They lost their two biggest games and failed to win their own division. Quarterback issues limited them early in the season, and they had too much ground to cover by the time they figured everything out. Look out for Georgia next season, but this year was an absolute dud.

Dud: Mike Leach in the SEC

We all wondered what Mike Leach’s offense would look like in the SEC. After a strong outing against LSU, they had a case to be considered dominant. However, the fireworks fell flat after their season opener. The Bulldogs struggled all season, and the offense never truly worked.

Dud: Marco Wilson

This seems a little too mean. The fact remains that Marco Wilson cost his team the game against LSU by throwing an opponent’s shoe. The Florida Gators went on to lose their next two games after that loss as they tail-spinned. You can’t put all of the blame on Wilson, but this error was massive.

Dud: Gus Malzahn

The Gus Bus finally broke down in Auburn, Alabama. It took yet another terrible season from the Tigers to finally kick Gus out of town. Don’t feel bad for Malzahn, though. He will be paid millions of dollars to watch games on the couch. If he wants to take another job, it will be a passion project.

Alabama football had plenty of studs lead the way. While you could keep counting, this SEC list seems pretty succinct.
