We have seen a wild rise for Alabama basketball this season. After a bumpy start to 2020, the Crimson Tide are the only team in the SEC with an undefeated conference record. They have won big games against Tennessee, Florida and Auburn on the road. They have overcome tough tests at home. Despite it all, they appear to be the clear-cut favorites to win the SEC regular-season title.
Despite Alabama’s success, they are staring down the barrel of a pivotal moment for their season. They have been on the rise for weeks, but the question is when they will fall. Their next challenge is tougher than it looks at home. They will face off against the Kentucky Wildcats.
UK has been a weak team compared to their regular output. Still, it is always a challenge to beat the Wildcats. If Alabama basketball wins its game on Tuesday, they will have a 2-0 record against Kentucky. That alone will give Alabama even more momentum as they wrap up the college basketball season.
Kentucky has momentum coming into this game. They are coming off of a dominant win against the LSU Tigers. While Alabama is certainly a better opponent, this is an opportunity to turn things around for Kentucky.
If Alabama beats UK, they will be on a 10-game win streak. This would be without a fully-healthy roster. If they lose, they will be staring down a tough slate of games with road matchups against Oklahoma and Missouri in their next three games. Needless to say, this is the true turning point of the Alabama basketball season.
The Crimson Tide have a legitimate shot to be a 2-seed in the NCAA Tournament. To bolster their odds, they need to beat Kentucky at home. They will be significantly favored, but it feels wrong to say that Alabama is a sure-fire bet to beat the Kentucky Wildcats in basketball.
