Alabama football turned the corner with their 2021 recruiting class

It took a while for the wheels to turn on this Alabama football recruiting class, but it ended up being the highest-rated class ever. After competing with Ohio State to be the top class in 2021, the Tide took a firm grip on the top spot with the Early Signing Period.

However, there is still the official National Signing Day. That means that there was still room to grow this class, and the Tide did just that. They landed two of the top unsigned player to end this class with a flourish.

Camar Wheaton is a five-star running back out of Texas, and he is rated as the second-best running back in this class. He had earlier committed to play for Alabama, but he made it official today. Many were concerned that the loss of so many position coaches, including his top recruiters, would impact Wheaton’s final decision. However, this is a testament to how strong Alabama recruiting is.

Wheaton will join a loaded running back room that includes Brian Robinson, Trey Sanders, Jase McClellan and Keilan Robinson. While he might not have an early impact, he will certainly have a strong career once he gets his chance.

The other player to sign today was Terrion Arnold, one of the top safeties in the class. Arnold chose Alabama football over the Florida Gators.

Alabama only had one safety signed to this class before Arnold, and he was outside the top 150 prospects. This will give Alabama a stud defensive back who has a chance to start as early as his sophomore year.

Most of Alabama’s secondary will be eligible for the 2022 NFL Draft. Because of that, adding depth was crucial. It went down to the wire, but Alabama finally landed the next stud safety to follow in the footsteps of players like Minkah Fitzpatrick and Xavier McKinney.

While this class might not have as much success as the 2017 class, it comes in rated higher. We will have to wait a few years to adequately judge this group, but it appears that the future for Alabama football is as bright as the present.
