Alabama Football: A first, and admittedly ‘way too early’ look at SEC football Power Rankings for the 2021 season.

Every Alabama football fan will likely agree – when your team is on top, there is no such thing as too early. In that vein, a ‘Way Too Early’ 2021 SEC Power Ranking is in order. Call it the pre-spring Power Ranking, leading to a post-spring update, a pre-fall camp update and a final preseason update before week one of the next college football season. A season that in February, always feels like it is more than months away.

A post-National Signing Day, Power Ranking was always pertinent, back when NSD mattered more. The Transfer Portal changed that and for another year, the 2021 Portal is on track to have more players in it than ever before.

Though many players have already made transfer decisions, roster realities, revealed through spring practice will trigger another flood of exiting players.

The Portal is not needed for the Alabama Football 2021 roster, except for the Tide players seeking more playing time with another team. Short of an unseen development, the Crimson Tide will not have the room for a player to transfer in.

Other SEC football programs need the Portal for new players. The Tennessee Vols have had close to 30 players enter the Portal. Their 3-Star heavy 2021 signing class cannot make up for all those exits. Auburn is another school needing plenty of JUCO or Portal help.

The bottom tier of SEC football teams, like the majority of FBS teams need roster help through any available means.

A couple of weeks ago we identified the 2021 SEC as basically a four-team league, with the league’s 14 teams split into five tiers. Our ‘Way Too Early’ Power Ranking begins with the same premise. The Alabama Crimson Tide is at the top, in a tier by itself.
