Alabama Football: 2021 NFL mock draft after the Super Bowl
By Dakota Cox
13. Los Angeles Chargers: Christian Darrisaw, OT, Virginia Tech
Some might see this as a reach. There is a clear gap between the top two offensive tackles and the rest of the class. That being said, tackles always rise up the boards.
It is obvious that the Chargers need help on the offensive line. They have weapons secured for the next few seasons, and they have full faith in Justin Herbert at quarterback. The defense needs a little bit of work, but the Chargers have to walk out of the draft with a fortified line to protect their franchise quarterback.
Darrisaw had a solid career with Virginia Tech. He is ready to start on an NFL offensive line, and he will be solid for years to come. If the Chargers choose Darrisaw, they have a good chance to protect Herbert’s blind side for the rest of his rookie deal.
There are a few other options for the Chargers. They might consider trading up for Sewell or Slater. Since they need help all over the offensive line, they might take Alijah Vera-Tucker to move around on the line. There is also a great corner that they can take if they feel good about the tackles that will be available in the second round.
If Los Angeles does not address the offensive line in free agency, look for them to address it in the first round.
